Homicide Suspect 7.16.08

The Topeka Police Department is currently seeking public assistance to locate the suspect in the homicide at the Whiplash Bar. The suspect is James Arthur Qualls, black male, date of birth  
7-27-84. He is 6’3” tall and weighs 270. He is shown in attached booking photo.

CRIME STOPPERS REPORT

July 17th, 2008

The Crime Stoppers Board of Directors are requesting that anyone with
information that might assist law enforcement in solving two of Topeka's
past homicides to call their tip line at 234-0007 with that information.
There is no caller ID and you will not be asked to give your name. If
an arrest is made, you may be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.

On Sunday April 27, 2008 at around 3:20 pm, Police were called to the
2800 block of SE Michigan reference a shooting. On arrival officers located a male victim that was shot while in their vehicle.
David Wakes

The victim was identified as 25-year-old David Wakes of Topeka. Mr. Wakes died at the scene. It appeared to investigators that Wakes was fired upon from another vehicle that fled the area.

On Thursday May 1, 2008 at about 2:10 am, Officers of the Topeka Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near 25th and SE Minnesota. They subsequently located a male who had been shot, lying in the backyard of a residence in the 2400 block of SE Minnesota.

AMR responded to the scene and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.Farrell Sanders

The victim was later identified as 17-year-old Farrell Sanders of Topeka.

July 10th, 2008

Topeka Police Detectives are asking for assistance from the public in
identifying a suspect(s) involved in a past homicide at occurred in Southeast Topeka.

On Friday July 6, 2007 at approximately 10:39 hours Police responded to a call of a drive by shooting in front of 1926 SE Illinois. Officers arrived to find that a black male had been shot in the back as he was standing near the street while in a conversation with another person.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Corey T. Robinson of Topeka.

July 3rd, 2008

Topeka Police Detectives are asking the public for assistance in identifying the individual(s) involved in an assault in Central Topeka.

On Sunday June 22, 2008 at about 9:18 pm, Topeka Police were called to the 900 block of SW Tyler reference a past assault. On arrival the officers spoke with two victims of the assault. The victims of the assault were a 17 year old female and a 13 year old female.

The 17 year old victim stated that she, the 13 year old victim, and two 12 year old males were en route to the movies inthe vehicle she was driving. She had stopped at the store located at 10th and Topeka to use the ATM. She indicated she saw the two suspects in the store but did not know them nor speak to them.

The victim stated they drove from the store to the 900 block of Tyler where they were meeting another friend. The 17 year old stated she and the 13 year old female were standing outside the car when the two suspects came walking north bound in the alley. The victim stated one of the suspects flipped them off and a comment was made to the suspects. Then one of suspects approached the 13 year old and started to assault her. The 17 year old female tried to stop the assault and was assaulted by the other
suspect.

The two suspects were caught on the store surveillance video and were described as (1) a black female wearing a red bandana over her head, a black tank top, and Capri pants. (2) a black female wearing a black shirt and jeans.

June 12th, 2008

Topeka Police Detectives are asking the public for assistance in
identifying the individual(s) involved in a past-unsolved homicide.

On Tuesday June 14, 1994, Topeka Police were called to 2541 SW
Brandywine Lane Apartment # 14 reference a dead person. Officers arrived and observed the body of a deceased female in the bedroom of the apartment. It was apparent that the female was a victim of a homicide.

The victim was identified as 39- year-old Roxanne Zwiesler, the resident of apartment #14. The body of Roxanne was found by a family member who came to the apartment to check on her welfare after phone calls were not answered.

June 5th, 2008

UPDATE-- a suspect turned himself in to Topeka Police in connection with this crime.

Topeka Police Detectives are asking for assistance from the public in
identifying a suspect involved in a robbery of a north Topeka convenience store

Suspect

On June 1, 2008, at approximately 5:30 am, an unknown white male entered
the convenience store located at 1114 N. Topeka. The suspect approached
the counter displaying a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.
The suspect took the money and prior to leaving the scene made the clerk
step outside the front door so that he could not call the police.

The robbery was captured on the store surveillance video. The suspect
was described as a white male, between 25 to 30 years of age, wearing a
light blue shirt, blue shorts and carrying a black semiautomatic
handgun.

May 29th, 2008


Topeka Police Detectives are asking for assistance from the public in
identifying a suspect involved in a business burglary in Southeast
Topeka.

On Sunday May 8, 2008 at approximately 4:33 am, an unknown subject made
forced entry into Cali Smoke Shop & Gas located at 2701 SE California.

The suspect used a crow bar which was left at the scene to pry open the
front door of the business. Once inside the business the suspect filled a plastic bag with numerous cartons of cigarettes from the business. The suspect then left the location in an unknown direction of travel.

The burglary and theft was captured on the store's surveillance video
system. The suspect was only described as an individual wearing blue jean shorts, black t-shirt, tennis shoes and a light gray or white hooded sweat shirt.
